boom..boom...??

President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu are to meet at the White House on Sept. 27, A-file reports. This timeline indicates that the prime minister is inclined to accommodate President Obama by delaying an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear program again until after the US presidential elections on Nov. 6

facebbook buy?

Facebook shares, which earlier today traded as low as $18.75, have rallied back to positive territory, thanks at least in part to a bullish note this morning from Capstone Investments analyst Rory Maher, who lifted his rating on the stock to Buy from Hold, setting a price target of $26.

Government Motors

President Obama is proud of his bailout of General Motors.  That’s good, because, if he wins a second term, he is probably going to have to bail GM out again.  The company is once again losing market share, and it seems unable to develop products that are truly competitive in the U.S. market.
Right now, the federal government owns 500,000,000 shares of GM, or about 26% of the company.  It would need to get about $53.00/share for these to break even on the bailout, but the stock closed at only $20.21/share on Tuesday.  This left the government holding $10.1 billion worth of stock, and sitting on an unrealized loss of $16.4 billion.

Reading International is one of the largest cinema owners in the U.S., but unlikeRegal Entertainment ( RGC), Carmike Cinemas (CKEC), or Cinemark(CNK), it isn't a name that leaps to most investors' minds. The Los Angeles-based company operates 27 cinemas with 266 screens domestically, including New York's fabled Angelika Film Center, as well as 29 cinemas with 213 screens in Australia and New Zealand.
The cinema business alone should be enough to put Reading on Wall Street's radar, but the company's real estate is of even greater interest. Reading's owned properties, including four in Manhattan, could be worth considerably more than the company's stated book value, which doesn't reflect years of property-price appreciation.
Capstone Equities, a New York real-estate concern, pegged Reading's value at between $12 and $14 a share in a May 15 letter to Reading's board of directors. That's more than double Reading's stated book value of $5.44 a share, and Friday's closing stock price of $5.07.
Capstone, a Reading shareholder, hasn't been shy about backing up its estimate with money. Earlier this year the firm offered $100 million for two of Reading's Manhattan properties -- City Cinemas 1, 2 & 3, located on Third Avenue, and the Union Square Theater -- a substantial premium to the properties' $32 million stated book value. Reading's management rejected the offer as "non-acceptable," but a sale could still be in the cards.

Johnson & Johnson Inc. JNJ.nyse and Pfizer, Inc. PFE.nyse both announced they are stopping development of a drug to treat patients with mild to moderate Alzheimers after the drug failed a second clinical trial.
The companies both noted the drug, bapineuzumab, did not improve the condition of Alzheimer’s patients compared to a placebo.

Apple Officials Said to Consider Stake in Twitter

Apple , which has stumbled in its efforts to get into social media, has talked with Twitter in recent months about making a strategic investment in it, according to people briefed on the matter. While Apple has been hugely successful in selling phones and tablets, it has little traction in social networking, which has become a major engine of activity on the Web and on mobile devices. Social media are increasingly influencing how people spend their time and money — an important consideration for Apple, which also sells applications, games, music and movies.
Apple has considered an investment in the hundreds of millions of dollars, one that could value Twitter at more than $10 billion, up from an $8.4 billion valuation last year, these people said. They declined to be named because the discussions were private.
There is no guarantee that the two companies, which are not in negotiations at the moment, will come to an agreement. But the earlier talks are a sign that they may form a stronger partnership amid intensifying competition from the likes of Google and Facebook
Apple has not made many friends in social media. Its relationship with Facebook, for example, has been strained since a deal to build Facebook features into Ping, Apple’s music-centric social network, fell apart. Facebook is also aligned with Microsoft, which owns a small stake in it. And Google, an Apple rival in the phone market, has been pushing its own social network, Google Plus.
“Apple doesn’t have to own a social network,” Timothy D. Cook, Apple’s chief executive, said at a recent technology conference. “But does Apple need to be social? Yes.”
