ZTE Corp (SHE: 000063, HKG: 0763), the world's fifth biggest phone maker, expected its shipments to the US to double annually over the next three years and the US would overtake China as its largest market by 2015.
A ZTE executive said Tuesday that the company was confident of selling 80 million cellphones this year including 12 million smartphones. ZTE intends to launch 30 smartphone prototypes this year. It sold 35 million cellphones globally including 4.5 million smartphones in the first half of 2011, up 30% and 400% respectively from the same period a year ago.
"Doing a great job in the US is a sign of international success just like an successful movie star has to make his or her name known in Hollywood," said ZTE vice executive director He Shiyou.
