China's imports rose 32.6% year on year $400.66 billion in Q1 2011, resulting in the first quarterly trade deficit of $1.02 billion in six years, according to customs figures. China recorded a $13.91 billion trade surplus in Q1 2010. Soybean exports were down 0.7% year on year to 10.96 million tons; iron ore imports were up 14.4% year on year to 177.17 million tons; crude oil imports were up 11.9% year on year to 63.41 million tons

Vehicle sales in China totaled 4.98 million units including 3.84 million passenger cars in Q1 2011, up 8.1% and 9.1% respectively from the same period a year ago, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

3D TV sales in China are expected to top five million units this year, predicted Jin Zhongde, vice president of LG Display Guangzhou branch.

China's consumption of machine tools was larger than the US, Japan and Germany combined last year, according to the Seminar on Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Cutting Tools. The industry produced ¥553.68 billion of products in 2010, up 40.6% from a year earlier.
