Rachat d'actions

Dividend

The Board of Directors of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) today raised the Company’s quarterly dividend 17% from $0.12 per outstanding share of the Company’s common stock to $0.14 per outstanding share of the Company's common stock. The Board declared that the dividend is payable January 25, 2011 to shareowners of record at the close of business on December 27, 2010. The ex-dividend date is December 22, 2010.
“We are able to increase the GE dividend for the second time this year because of continued strong cash generation, accelerated recovery at GE Capital and solid underlying performance in our Industrial businesses through year-end 2010,” GE CEO Jeff Immelt said. “In addition, the Company plans to continue capitalizing on complementary and financially attractive inorganic growth opportunities, opportunistic share repurchases and investing in innovation as part of our thoughtful capital-allocation efforts.”

Paperless

According to a survey of 1,000 iPad users by the Reynolds Journalism Institute, many owners of the tablet computer use it “consume news.” More than 58% of the respondents “who subscribe to printed newspapers and use their iPad at least an hour a day for news said they are very likely to cancel their print subscriptions within the next six months,” according to a press release. This raises some interesting questions.
Newspapers are not going to be able to charge premium subscription rates. In fact, participants in the survey cited “a price lower than the price of a print subscription” as the reason why they would buy a subscription to a news aps or an iPad newspaper subscription. Readers are used to getting content basically for free though paywalls are springing up. The other challenge will be is in creating a unique user experiences. Having only static text and pictures just is not going to cut it. Publishers, though, have plenty of opportunities.
For one thing, iPad users are bound to attract advertisers eager to reach their educated and well-heeled audience. More than half the respondents — 55.6% — said they had an annual household income of $100,000. The average age of all respondents is 48. That’s not the young demographic that advertisers covet, but it’s not bad either.
That is probably the reason why Rupert Murdoch is developing an iPad only publication called The Daily which he calls his “No. 1 most exciting project.” The iPad isn’t the savior of the newspaper industry but it may slow its fade into oblivion.

dangdang.com 133 199 trades aujourd'hui...wow!

We have another IPO from China today that may look like a NASDAQ IPO but it is a New York Stock Exchange IPO. E-commerce China Dangdang Inc. (NYSE: DANG) priced at a premium for its initial public offering of 17,000,000 American Depositary Shares. The deal was priced at $16.00 per ADS, but the range was lifted once and it priced even higher. The initial price range was put at $11.00 to $13.00 per share. Then the deal was raised to $13.00 to $15.00 per share. $16,00 represents a premium even to the premium. Of the offering, some 13.2 million ADSs are being sold by the company and 3.8 million shares are being sold by shareholders.

Howard

Stern devoted a portion of his broadcast to blast Sirius/XM Chief Financial Officer David Frear for speaking publicly about his negotiations, suggesting that the shock jock would likely have to take a pay cut to remain with the company at Monday’s UBS Media Conference.
“I am not taking a f—ing paycut,” Stern told his listeners Tuesday. “Why would I have to take a pay-cut? …Who is this guy to say this in public?”
“Never mind getting respect from the industry, I want respect from the company.”
.... an exclusive three-year, $600 million deal to take his show to Apple’s iTunes. Stern commented on the rumors on Monday’s show, claiming that he has been talking to a lot of companies and has been tight-lipped about his next gig because he didn’t know what it will be. As for the even more impressive salary such a deal would offer: “Three years, $600 million?” he said. “That’s better than Derek Jeter!”

Oups...

The iPad 2 (not its official name)

Taiwan’s Digitimes is reporting that Foxconn’s plants in Shenzen, China, are preparing to ship the iPad 2 for Apple Inc. “within the next 100 days with initial shipments to reach 400,000-600,000 units.” Digitimes cites its sources as “Taiwan-based component makers,” who “have all been notified of the shipments schedule.

Rare Earths...les Japonais arrivent...

Molycorp Inc. (NYSE: MCP) is surging higher on reports that Sumitomo is considering a stake in the company. The move would be a game changer even if it is not lacking in surprise. Now that China has made waves in the rare earth elements and rare earth oxides after limiting exports and after the looming ‘classified’ materials status in 2011, the cost of acquiring and securing rare earth elements may matter far less than actually getting steady REE/REO supplies ahead.
China supplies what is widely reported as being in the vicinity of 95% of the REEs/REOs for the world. What makes Molysorp so interesting and unique is that it has proved reserves and it did have operations that had been halted years ago in the materials. It operates the Mountain Pass mine, a non-Chinese rare earth deposit here in the United States.
Rare Element Resources Ltd. (AMEX: REE) is up with Molycorp today even if it considered far more speculative even by speculators. Its shares are up over 13% at $11.17 while Molycorp shares are up over 16% at $32.34. These stocks have become very big cult stocks around the rare earth trends of late.
Market Vectors Rare Earth/Strategic Metals ETF (NYSE: REMX) is higher as well on the rumors.
