China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SNP.nyse ), Asia's largest oil refiner, is planning to join the bidding for 42 offshore oilfields off Gabon, which several global players will take part, the company's president Su Shulin said Thursday after meeting with the African nation's energy minister. Sinopec's spokesperson could be reached for confirmation. The Gabonese government will begin inviting tenders for the 42 blocks on October 27. To fill its strategic reserves, Sinopec paid $8 billion last year for the takeover of Canada's Addax Petroleum and this April purchased a 9% stake in oil sands miner, Syncrude Canada, for $4.7 billion. China's daily oil consumption will reach 9.2 million barrels by 2015, according to the International Energy Agency.
