Le prochain GROS du fast food ?

- Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. said Wednesday that its first-quarter profit surged nearly 23 percent, powered by higher sales at newly opened restaurants and improved traffic at locations open at least a year. The results beat Wall Street expectations.
The company reported net income of $46.4 million, or $1.46 a share, for the three months ended March 31. That compares with net income of $37.8 million, or $1.19 a share, in the prior-year quarter.Revenue climbed 24 percent to $509.4 million, from $409.7 million in the same quarter last year.
Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected earnings of $1.44 a share on revenue of $493.8 million. Higher customer traffic drove up revenue at restaurants open at least a year by 12.4 percent during the quarter. The statistic is an important indicator of a chain's health because it measures growth at existing locations rather than from expansion.
Chipotle opened 12 restaurants during the quarter, bringing its total count to 1,095. It expects to open between 135 and 145 in 2011.
