The Chinese government plans to classify shale gas as a non-conventional hydrocarbon to encourage private capital to invest in the resource. The nation is projected to have up to 45 trillion m3 of shale gas deposits and to make it represent a quarter of natural gas output by 2030.

China's investment in environmental protection will increase at least 1.5 times to ¥5.4 trillion during the five years through 2015 (compared to the previous five years), according to an industry meeting.
