Chongqing Chang'an Automobile Co (SHE: 000625), Ford's partner in China, saw its sales climb 34.8% from a year earlier to more than 660,000 vehicles during the first half of 2009, including 126,000 vehicles in June, up 65.9%. Compact cars, Chongqing Chang'an's best selling line of cars, sold almost 350,000 units in January-June period, thanks to the central government's incentives prompting farmers to buy cars. The figure approximated that for the whole of 2008. Chang'an Ford Mazda Co, a joint venture founded by the three as its name shows, sold 29,642 cars in June, up 75.6% year-on-year. Chongqing Chang'an aims to achieve an annual sale volume of 2 million vehicles within 2 years, said chairman Xu Liuping.
