China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, HKG: 0941), the world's biggest wireless phone carrier, will sell the mainland's first Google Android mobile handsets in June, according to HTC CEO Peter Chou. The OPhone, as China Mobile names it, is manufactured by Taiwan's HTC Corporation and embedded with China Mobile's self-developed software. It will cost ¥5,000, 10% more than the iPhone. An earlier online poll found that 46.4% of respondents would buy the OPhone while 53.6% were not attracted to it. China Mobile offers services to some 483 million customers. HTC is reported to consider supplying 3G-based handsets to China Mobile, who declined to comment.
